"To surmount the situation of oppression, people must first critically recognize its causes, so that through transforming actions, they can create a new situation, one which makes possible the pursuit of a fuller humanity" (Freire, 2005, p. 47)
Professional Competencies
As a doctoral student at UPEI, I have actively developed my professional competencies through engagement in scholarly and professional activities. I have one peer-reviewed article accepted for publication, and will be presenting at 3 academic conferences, including 2022 AERA and CSSE annual conferences. I have also actively engaged in faculty governance as the representative of the PhD student Society, a sessional representative in the bachelor’s of Education Committee, and a member of the Faculty Hiring Committee.
These experiences are not only beneficial to me as a doctoral student, most importantly, they are critical experiential learning for my development as a member in academia.
