"To surmount the situation of oppression, people must first critically recognize its causes, so that through transforming actions, they can create a new situation, one which makes possible the pursuit of a fuller humanity" (Freire, 2005, p. 47)
Knowledge of Theory
The complexity of educational debates cannot be captured by a single approach, there is even an ethical responsibility while doing this (Andreotti, 2011). What Santos calls an ecology of knowledges is necessary (2007).
Through the doctoral courses, I have had the opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of a number of key theoretical perspectives related to education, including Post-colonial Theory, Critical Cosmopolitanism, Critical Pedagogy, and Global Citizenship Education theories. The two artifacts included in this section demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of these theories.
